* Relief of pain * Prevents mechanical damage from lids * Promotes epithelial healing * Corrects irregular corneal surface abonormality * Protects corneal epithelium * Works as a drug delivery system * Acts as a bandage for corneal aceration. |
BULLOUS KERATOPATHY
This is one of the most common usage of a therapeutic soft bandage lens and, as in a variety of other epithelial disorders, the relief of a pain can often be dramatics. This usually due to the prevention of painful contact between the eyelid and the exposed nerve endings of the abnormal or insulated cornea.
KERATOPLASTY
A cornea transplant is often referred to as keratoplasty or a corneal graft. It can be used to improve sight, relieve pain and treat severe infection or damage. One of the most common reasons for a cornea transplant is a condition called keratoconus, which causes the cornea to change shape.
The use of bandage lenses in this field is becoming an accepted norm, again to prevent contact.
